In the first two months of this project, I just sketched one side of a double-faced card. Back then I would only spend 10-20 minutes on a card, so I tried to challenge myself to spend 20 minutes on each of these arts.
I started with a 10 minute timer, since that is how I started this sketch-a-day project. After 5 minutes I realized I didn’t not pace myself well, so extended it 20 minutes.

I do love when the transforming mechanic is used to represent more of a mindset change than a magical one, the grieving sister taking up the sword in this case.

Instead of trying to spend my 20 minutes on the whole picture, I focused on getting as much detail on one side, imagining that I’d mirror it in post.

I think this final sketch shows off my progression, with the 3rd image here comparing this to the side I did three months ago. I can capture a lot more in 20 minutes.
